An FSA is a benefit typically offered by most employers and allows you to set aside money directly from your paycheck, tax-free, and put it into an account to be used to pay for eligible health-related, or out-of-pocket expenses for you, your partner and dependents.
Most FSA plans operate under a “use it, or lose it” structure, which means that you have until the end of the year, Dec. 31st, to spend all of your pretax dollars before they’re forfeited. If you’re one of the lucky ones, your employer will provide a grace period of up to two and a half months into the new year for you to use your FSA dollars. This essentially gives you until March 15th to spend it all, but you’ll want to confirm this with your employer because some grace periods can be shorter or even non-existent.
Now, the question is: what can I buy with my FSA dollars? Honestly, a lot of vanity essentials like bandages, sunscreen (never a bad idea to stock up on that), face wash, prenatal vitamins, and acne treatments. Yes, you heard us — acne treatments.
